Dave Matthews, born in Johannesburg in South Africa is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the world famous Dave Matthews band and has also had a short stint in films by appearing in three feature films. After a few singing performances with local musicians in Charlottesville, Dave wanted to start his own band. The murder of Dave’s sister by her husband totally changed his attitude towards life. He dedicated his performance in Wetlands in New York to his sister Anne in 1994. Dave was at first very apprehensive about singing the songs by himself but later decided otherwise. He formed a band named Dave Matthews Band in 1991.

In late 2003 his solo album “Some Devil” was released and was tagged platinum. In 2004 he won the Grammy award for the song “Gravedigger”. He took part in “America: A Tribute to Heroes” and sang “Everyday” to show his tribute to the victims of September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. Dave’s show which was held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York along with Tim Reynolds in April 2007 has been a great success and for the first time the CDs & DVDs were released as a combinations et of Dave and Tim. Apart from singing Dave is into acting in movies, farming and charity.

Dave Matthew Band has major fan following and in 2007 it is able to produced approximately 41.1 million dollars. This band has now reached the 11th position of 20 bands with the highest earnings. The band earned 39 million dollar in 2006 which is slightly less than this year amount. According to a report presented by Fox business, Dave Matthew band is now on number 4th position for the most requested concerts in 2007, which is directly related to their increase in the ticket sales. Unexpectedly Dave Matthew Band outranked Rush and Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band; the two bands who staged in 2007 for the major reunion tours. Even they are ranked high overall but they still manage to set their prices of tickets lower as compared to other bands. According to Pollstar article Dave Matthews Band’s ticket price is the lowest in the list of the 20 top band earnings through the sales of the tickets. So 2007 was the successful year for Dave Matthew Band for the ticket sale although the highest average bands and singer are not on the top 20 list. The concert industry is undergoing a loss but DMB manage to survive through it.

Dave Matthews is another country boy from the great town of Charlottesville, Virginia who found his spot in the music industry by never letting go of his own special style of lyrics and music. Beginning life in South Africa as a young boy and coming to the United States to complete high school has given Dave Matthews a unique story to tell. This seems to be the common denominator for some of the great musical stars to come along. Among the many accomplishments to be praised, there is one that seems to be at the top of the list. It seems, as odd as it may sound, that many of the top cell phone providers have been in the running for this star’s unique brand of songs to use as their special ringtones. AT&T has come out on top of the rest in being allowed to feature Dave Matthews to their customers. This provider will be coming out with a few Dave Matthews ringtones for customers to use. Each of the ringtones will not be synthetically altered as is common practice and will be a live recorded audio from the singer himself.

Dave Matthews turned 41 today. When he was two years old, his family moved from Johannesburg, South Africa to Yorktown Heights. The family headed back to Johannesburg after John died. After all the family  returned to the States to live in Virginia after Dave finished high school.Hopefully as the DM in DMB celebrates the big 4-1, he won’t “eat too much (or) drink too much. Too Much!”

Two of the more high-profile acts that weren’t selling their music as ringtones have given in. The operator scored exclusive access to a handful of Dave Matthews Band’s ringtones made from live recordings, but will later include studio tracks. Van Halen, meanwhile, is making its most popular songs available as ringtones to all wireless operators, but agreed to give AT&T exclusive versions of those same songs for a limited time. AT&T director of music and personalization products Mark Nagel says the Dave Matthews deal was a result of simply communicating the demand.

It is exactly South Africa which inspired Dave Matthews so much for music. However, Dave performed in this country quite rarely, and, perhaps, to the surprise of many, the guitarist’s final performance in 2007 took place in Gauteng, South Africa.  Is Dave planning to return back to South Africa? Will he perform there more often? Who knows… but it is quite typical for many stars to return back to the homeland after long years on the foreign land.
