The Dave Matthews Band is bringing out a new album following the success of their 2005 super hit album “Stand Up” and the work on the current album is taking more time than it was originally assumed to take. The new album has a special emphasize on the word Band and has total involvement from all its band members in every aspect of the album. The work on the album started very early during this year in Charlottesville and then shifted to Seattle in March. The composition of the songs are ready and the group is awaiting for Dave Matthews to write the lyrics which will only happen after the DMB completes their summer tour in early September. Fans of Dave Matthews Band will be overjoyed to hear that their favorite band have won an award that recognizes their efforts in caring for the environment. Rock the Earth, a non-profit organization that marries the love for music and environmental concern, has named DMB one of the winers for the 2008 Planet Defender Award. DMB was victorious in the Artist category and applauded for campaigning for environmental sustainability. Although they have toured close to 17 years on the road, they promoted proper environmental ethics through endeavors like using Biodiesel for their tour bus, buying up carbon credits and encouraging the use of biodegradable utensils whenever they tour.

Dave Matthews gave his 100% support to Jack Johnson by attending his friend’s Kokua Festival this year. Jack Johnson and his wife Kim were founders of this annual festival and this year it was held in Waikiki, Hawaii where the sun and surf is synonymous with Johnson’s love for the sunny outdoors. The festival was created with the noble aim to aid the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which provides much needed help to Hawaiian youngsters who deserve it. This charitable organization also raises awareness about the plight of the surrounding environment.

Dave Matthews was seen praising the Johnson couple’s efforts and has proudly stated that this event was an inspirational to everyone who attended. He performed several songs and gave a little talk about giving back to the environment. It is also notable the first time that Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson who are both commendable activists, have appeared to perform on stage together.

The inaugural Mile High Music Festival will be held this coming July 19 and 20, and guess who’s going to storm the stage with their stellar performance? Dave Matthews Band, that’s who. Along with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Dave Matthews will grace the first ever Mile High Music Festival held at the Outer Fields located in the vicinity of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Touted to be one of the most elaborate music festivals in Colorado, the fans who go to the music festival will be able to enjoy performances from five stages, delectable food from Denver’s renowned restaurants, as well as an exhibition at the artists’ village.

Beside Dave Matthews Band, other talented acts are also expected to present fans with their great performances. These include John Mayer belting out tunes from his latest award winning “Continuum” album, Spoon, Colbie Caillat, as well as local bands from Denver such as Rose Hill Drive, Born in the Flood and the Flobots. Dave Matthews appreciates the efforts that Tim Reynolds is putting on this album and all the DMB members are giving him all the necessary support needed for him to come up with a really exciting album. The Dave Matthews Band has last worked with Reynolds in “Before These Crowded Streets” album which happened a long time ago and their union will bring out something new and refreshing for the DMB fans. Dave Matthews said that there is no concrete date fixed for the release of the album and the fans will have to wait a while for the album to hit the music stand. 

Trivia: What does Dave Matthews and Death Cab For Cutie have in common with each other? Answer: Both bands are the biggest stars ever to emerge from Seattle and recently on April 14 2008, both appeared at the Key Arena to give a concert that featured a special guest none other than the Dalai Lama. The respected Tibetan leader took precedence over both bands and most interestingly, Dave Matthews himself interviewed the Dalai Lama prior to the concert. It was his second public appearance for the day which includes a morning meeting at the Bank of America Arena in conjunction with the five day tour organized by Seeds of Compassion, a local non profit voluntary group.

Dave Matthews was clearly in awe of the Dalai Lama when he asked about his opinion concerning music and compassion during the interview. The Dalai Lama replied: “The message of love through music may be stronger in depth.” Dave Matthews also shared that earlier although he was involved in fights with kids from a different school, they evolved to eventually become his best friends.

Earlier on, Elton John performed for Hillary Clinton and managed to raise an astounding $2.5 million during the much talked about performance. Now, Dave Matthews have pledged to do the same to show his support for Barack Obama.

Dave Matthews performed for free in support of Democratic Presidential candidate, Barack Obama. He was joined by long time collaborator, Tim Reynolds. Together, they are set to wow the crowds in the gig titled “Change Rocks - A Very Special Evening With Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds”. The gig was held on April 6 2008 and entrance was made free of charge to all who live in Indiana. The special acoustic show was also accompanied by a short address by Dave Matthews who encouraged the youth of America to come forward and vote.
