GruGrux

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

When the latest DMB album was released, we all knew it was going to be something special. The band was just emerging from one of their most difficult moments, when one of their members was killed in an accident in 2008. Over the course of this year, the group had been redefining itself into a big new band, getting back to their roots and everything. Don’t be surprised if that plan continues for awhile, since it takes a long time to get all those things back in order. But Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King has been nominated for a Grammy, which is definitely worth it, and hopefully we will be able to keep watching them perform. Maybe they will even perform at the Grammys themselves? We can only hope!

Best Tour and Grammys

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

A couple pieces of information for your holiday weekend. First off, there are still more reports about the Dave Matthews Band tour being the best tour of the decade. Obviously, it’s musically the best one of the decade. But it turns out that what they are referring to mostly is that they earned more money on tour than anyone else. This isn’t as surprising because they have been touring a lot more than most other people. The other piece of news, which isn’t too surprising either is that the DMB has been nominated for a couple of Grammys for their Grugrux King album and they have a good chance of winning it. For the band, it’s not the first time to be nominated nor will it be the first time to win, but nevertheless, it’s going to be fun to see them all at the Grammys again this year.

Top Act

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

I touched on this the other day, but Dave Matthews has been declared the biggest act of the decade by Pollstar. This is based on some information about his tours, which have grossed more than any other group. Celine Dion is the only performer that even comes close and she stayed in Vegas most of the time. But the DMB has never had the top tour of the year at any point. Just kept racking up points all this time. Surely this ranking wasn’t hurt by the great fans that he has as well. This is to say that has one of the most excited fan bases in the country. Of course, it’s these people who got the band so much of their tour earnings after all. Keep it up next decade, because they are going to continue making great music!

10,000 Lakes Fest Canceled

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

There’s a big disappointment those of you in Minnesota this coming year. The 10,000 Lakes Festival has been canceled. The promoters cited the fact that festivals have been hit hard in the last few years. Theirs in particular was hurt by the advent of other festivals in the area, in Detroit and Colorado, that sucked some of the energy out during the shorter concert season. So we won’t be seeing Dave there or anyone else this year. The bigger problem might be in the future, because the festival might be permanently canceled. They are billing it as a cancellation for this year with some sources saying that it’s an indefinite cancellation that likely means the end of the fest. In other news, the DMB is the top act of the decade according to Pollstar.

In the Movies

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

There is a review of the DMB’s newest concert movie that is especially good. Those who enjoy his live shows have said that they might even have gotten a better view while sitting in the movie theater. The shows are taken partly from music festivals earlier in the year and the rest were from other similar concerts. Similarly, the music is just as good as anyone who has seen the concerts live would say. But you’ll have to hurry. The movie will be in theaters for only a few days, at least at first. And it’s on limited release, so you’ll have to take a real look at the schedule to make sure that you don’t miss out on this fun. It appears that it’s not only available in 3D but also in regular movie form too. So find “Larger Than Life” and enjoy!

3D

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

The big news in the Dave Matthews world is that his show in 3D (Dave Matthews 3D) is coming out this weekend. We’ve heard a little bit about this project, but it’s a little bit unclear exactly what it consists of. But basically, it’s a concert presented on the big screen in 3D. It’s a lot of fun, if you have seen clips of it, because it feels like Dave is right there with you. Playing his music. Strummin’ the guitar. If you enjoy his music, you’ll really enjoy this movie. The only thing better is to actually see him in concert, which will happen against in a couple of months when he finally comes back to the stage. His shows have been a lot of fun the last few years. They’re not so big and flashy as some of the other bands making the rounds right now, but the music is good enough that you don’t have to think about it at all. Check your local movie listings.

Music

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

Since the news is cooling down with Dave right now, we thought it would be a good chance for us to recall our favorite songs by the DMB. Things are calm because the holidays are coming up and it’s going to be quieter until the beginning of the year. So I decided it would be fun to have a “comments” poll of sorts. I want you to tell me which song you like the most from the band. Do you like the fast paced ones, where you dance and have a great time? Or do you like the slower ones that are quieter, with a little more of a serene feel? Like a ballad? Just put in your two cents about the type of song, or even list your favorite in the comments. We’ll see what ends up with the most votes.

Grammys

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

When the Grammys are held in a couple of months, there are going to be a lot of people hoping to get a piece of the action. This week, the nominations were announced finally, and of course Dave got in. Some people weren’t happy about it, but many people were very happy. It’s going to be a great time for them, and maybe they’ll even ask him to perform? It’s not obvious yet, but we’ll be watching for an announcement along those lines. We are looking forward to seeing the Grammys in February. Hopefully  there will be no more drama than the normal kind of drama that surrounds an awards show. There were many great nominees, so Dave is in great company!

What’s the Hullabalou?

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

That’s a perfectly fair question. When it was announced that there would be a HullabaLOU Festival next year for the first time, we had to look it up. Turns out, it was a festival that’s been in the works for quite a few years, but they haven’t been able to get it off the ground until 2010. In July, however, this will be one of the big festivals of the year, especially as it includes a lot of the best musicians, including the DMB, the Doobie Brothers, and the B-52s. It’s actually a pretty wide variety, but it will be a lot of fun for us to see the DMB with all these different groups. Who knows, we might be treated to some interesting mixed styles and combined musical performances. If you don’t see them anywhere else, make sure to see Dave Matthews there!
