Outside Lands Pt 2

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

So it turns out that you might have been smart to watch the Outside Lands Festival on YouTube after all. It was a very cold evening when Dave played and so it might have been even more fun to be at home where you can pretend like it’s a hot summer’s day. But the music gave everyone a lot of reason to dance around with their upbeat music and fun beats. They always do, but it seemed especially effective out there are the festival this year. He changed the lyrics on a couple of the songs, I think. Maybe they just like to do that to keep things moving and interesting for the band? I don’t know, but if anyone has any insight on that, I’d be interested to find out!

In just a short time, you will have a great opportunity to see Dave Matthews in concert. And I say that with an extra dose of confidence this time around, because not only will he be playing for thousands of fans at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, but he will be available for millions or billions of people to hear live on YouTube. Yes, YouTube will be showing the festival in live streaming. And why shouldn’t they? It’s definitely one of the most fun events and a lot of people are looking forward to seeing him and Jason Mraz and others playing music over the course of the festival. So if you haven’t been able to get away and see a DMB show this year, you should make an appointment with yourself to sit in front of your computer with some chips and a tasty drink and hear his concert. You could even put on some sunscreen in order to get the full effect of the simulated experience.

Dave and Tim

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

There is a bit of discussion right now about whether Dave might appear in Las Vegas in October or November this year. But that might not be completely accurate. There are a lot of people who want to hear the band play there. But the venue is smaller, so it might be more fruitful for a “Dave and Tim” show, which is always a lot of fun too. It makes it a smaller combo which is able to blend a lot better and is also a little bit more fun to hear in some ways. You don’t get the full band sound, but you get to hear great music anyway played by a smaller group.

Interview Style

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

Dave Matthews has given a few interviews lately to several different newspapers and it highlights the style of answers that he’s likely to give. Matthews is a smart man who can think hard and make his answers sound perfect. In this case, Matthews seems to give answers that go off on tangents, but then comes back to his main point at the end. The band has a lot of good characters, but Dave is clearly the center of the team and he gives the interviews most of the time. He’s always fun to hear and in this interview he makes reference to LeRoi, who he misses very much. He says that LeRoi was often pretty sad, but he was someone that people got along with very well most of the time. We’ll be seeing Dave during some of his upcoming performances and enjoy!

Almost A Year

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

It’s been almost a year since the death of our favorite saxophonist in the world. This article made me think about how good these fellows in the band are that they have been able to keep going on. A lot of times bands are unable to weather the storm when they lose a person who is a major piece of their band. Other bands have been known to break up because of this kind of thing. Not Dave and his band. Partly because Dave is the main character in his band. But also because these guys are so close and work so well together that we don’t need to worry about them being able to keep playing (and even get better!) as time goes on. This is one of the best things that a band can do, keep together and work hard to get their music done the right way.

No News

Posted in: DMB

There isn’t much in the news about Dave Matthews this week. He is still on tour, seeing towns all around the country and meeting lots of fans. The tour has a lot of songs from his newest CD, but also a lot more songs from the early days of the band. In fact, these are some of the classic songs that they have. The band is doing a great job with their concerts, and they’re playing impressive music every time. If you want to hear them, make sure to get some tickets to their songs. These are great musicians that you can enjoy listening to all the time. His band has changed a bit over the years, but they still have a great sound!

Not Sure If This is Positive Press

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

There is an article in the Washington City Paper about the DMB and whether it’s good music or not. Of course a lot of people like it. We can tell that just from the attendance at the shows that he’s been in recently. Many of the shows have been sold out as well. But the question keeps getting asked as to why he remains popular even now. Perhaps it is people looking to hold onto a band they loved in college. This isn’t a big surprise though, is it? That people want to remain young at heart? And also: what’s wrong with that? The DMB gives people happiness who are looking for it by playing songs that they really enjoy. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with that. I say, go ahead and listen and let the slings and arrows come if they may.

The Atmosphere

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

If you enjoy Dave Matthews, then you already know the atmosphere of his concerts. When a person goes to a DMB show, you will usually see a party of some sort. This week at Bethel Woods, there was a large part of the parking lot that was devoted to people partying. People had snacks and tasty treats, as well as some drink, and it was fun. Not for everyone, though. Bethel Woods had put more security on duty for this particular show after the insanity at Saratoga earlier this month. As a result, there were relatively few arrests; a few, but that’s not unusual for a high profile rock show. It seems like the extra security made it easier for them to keep more under control throughout the entire show.

The DMB Community

When Dave Matthews comes to town, there are a lot of people who are really excited about it. It’s not just about the music, it’s about the fans based that has cropped up around it. These are people who love this music just like we do. And anyone who goes to a concert will find people who are similarly devoted to the music. There is a lot of common ground for them too, including other interests and other bands that they might like. But it always comes back to the DMB. They like the jam band feel, where it’s not a big extravaganza like U2, but gives them more of a sense as though they are looking in on a few fellows playing music in their basement and just enjoying it.
