We Have a Title!

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

The DMB has a new album title! The new album is comingĀ  in the next few months and the breaking news is that they have announced a title! Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King is the new album that will be coming out and we’ve really been looking forward to it! You may be wondering what the title means. We’re not completely sure, but some of the news reports we’ve been reading are pretty sure that the title has a nod to the late, great LeRoi Moore. Some people called him the Groogrux King, so this is a great tribute for him. Of course, I’d prefer actually having him still with us, but if you are to honor him, then putting his nickname in the title of the album is a very nice way to do so!

Arkansas

Dave Matthews will perform at the Dickey-Stephens performance space in Little Rock, Arkansas, this coming summer. It is the first high-level concert to come to the place since they opened it in 2005. The people in the area sound very excited about it, because they haven’t had enough good performers in Little Rock. But now they will get Dave! And his band, of course, with new and old members. Other outlets report that the other bands that will be playing on the concerts help the DMB and improve their indie cred as well. The full tour dates are still being released and the reaction to that schedule is still coming out all the time.

Fenway?

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

This week, the Dave Matthews Band released their plans to tour North America. They will be going to many different cities and perform at music festivals and everything. But there is some discussion about whether they might be playing at Fenway Park on May 29th and/or 30th. The field will be open, because the Red Sox will be in Toronto at that time, and the DMB will be in the Northeast too. Hmm. I think it would be awesome to see them perform there, because this way more people can see the band than can usually see them at one time. Plus Fenway is such a nice place to see games and shows. I hope they do decide to play there!

Tour

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

Well, despite the Grammys and all that kind of thing, the DMB will be going on tour very soon. Aren’t you excited? It’s only a couple months away that this exciting tour will begin. The tour kicks off in NYC and then takes a major jog to the south of the country. From their home in Virginia down through Alabama and other states. We will be watching shows in all these places and hope that all the fans that want to see the band play will be able to. Of course, they will also be playing at the festival in Minnesota, a first for the group, and so let’s keep an eye out for other tour dates to be announced!

Explanation?

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

The Recording Industry spokesman came out with an explanation for LeRoi’s omission during the recent Grammy Awards. He told us that there were 250 people in the industry who passed away last year, all of whom are listed in the program book, but they could only really honor a select few of them during the ceremony itself. After all it’s a celebration, not a necrology ceremony. He did say that he regretted the loss. So that’s where they stand, and I suppose we’ll have to live with that. Anyway, it’s not so important in the wider scheme of things.

Unfortunate

LeRoi Moore didn’t make it in the Grammys last night. It wasn’t that he was likely to win an award. I don’t think the DMB were actually nominated for anything last night. But during their little memorial/necrology moment, Moore didn’t even show up! They put up the pictures of other musicians who passed away during 2008 and they were correctly respected. But LeRoi didn’t get in at all! How sad. It’s not like he’s obscure or that he never really hit the big time. He’s part of DMB, so I don’t know what else they need in order to actually go and remember the guy. Anyway, it’s just the establishment music world, not the real world.

Coffin

Jeff Coffin will be playing with the Marquette University Jazz Ensemble on February 13th this year. As we know here on this site, he’s the new saxophone player with the DMB and so he’s making the roundsĀ  alittle bit. Certainly, the musicians at the University are going to be really excited to see this and have a good time with it. Anytime you get a guest musician on your concert is fun, especially in a smaller group. When it’s Jeff Coffin, you can be really excited about it! Hope they have fun with it.

Reynolds

Posted by: Greg

Posted in: DMB

Tim Reynolds was one of the main guys with the Dave Matthews Band in previous years. He plays the guitar, and probably some other instruments, and he is one of the best in the biz. This year, he is jumping in with the DMB again as the main guitarist for the band. In the last year or so, he moved his family from New Mexico to rural areas of North Carolina, where he feels the roots of music are easier to grasp and pick up into your own music. He also finds the area nice for his family. But this year he will be going on tour with DMB, so that he can get back with the group and have a good time. He’s one of the best people DMB could have, so we’re very excited to hear their sound with him back in their midst again.
