Jack Johnson and his wife Kim were founders of this annual festival and this year it was held in Waikiki, Hawaii where the sun and surf is synonymous with Johnson’s love for the sunny outdoors. The festival was created with the noble aim to aid the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, which provides much needed help to Hawaiian youngsters who deserve it. Trivia: What does Dave Matthews and Death Cab For Cutie have in common with each other? Answer: Both bands are the biggest stars ever to emerge from Seattle and recently on April 14 2008, both appeared at the Key Arena to give a concert that featured a special guest none other than the Dalai Lama. The respected Tibetan leader took precedence over both bands and most interestingly, Dave Matthews himself interviewed the Dalai Lama prior to the concert. It was his second public appearance for the day which includes a morning meeting at the Bank of America Arena in conjunction with the five day tour organized by Seeds of Compassion, a local non profit voluntary group.

Dave Matthews was clearly in awe of the Dalai Lama when he asked about his opinion concerning music and compassion during the interview. The Dalai Lama replied: “The message of love through music may be stronger in depth.” Dave Matthews also shared that earlier although he was involved in fights with kids from a different school, they evolved to eventually become his best friends.
